Treasury at Delphi

Five metopes from the treasury of Sikyon (about 560 BC).
These are Sikyonian work, in yellow limestone, very carefully executed, with remarkable movement, but in poor condition.
They depict mythological scenes such as:
the rape of Europa by Zeus in the form of a bull, the Argonautic Expedition (the ship Argo), the raid of cattle by the Dioskouroi and the Apharidai, the hunt of the Kalydonian boar, Frixos and Elli on the ram with the golden fleece.

Europa and Bull

Europa is carried away by Zeus in the form of a bull.

Argonautes

The Dioscuri and the ship Argo. Kastor and Pollux, on horseback, appear on the right
and left of the ship, in the midst of the warriors in the Argo is Orpheus and a musician playing the lyre.
