The old city was destroyed from Demetrios Poliorketes
at 303 BC, not from any kind of animosity but to force Sikyonians to
inhabit the easily defended Plateau of Acropolis.
Demetrios actually helped in the construction of this "New City"
which the historian Diodoros tell us that was safe, pleasant, with
abundance of water.
It seems that besides being the Acropolis and a sacred place, the
plateau was also inhabited, sparingly of course and surely cultivated
because of its rich soil from ancient times.
The New Polis was build near the eastward site of the plateau, with the
Agora above it, and Theater, Gymnasium, Stadium to the west, and above
them to the left the new Acropolis.
The mistress of Demetrios, Lamia opened an art gallery there.
