Amphiaraos departs for Thebes, in the doom expedition Seven against Thebes, from a Corinthian vase about 560 BC. Eriphyle holds the necklace on the left, the bribe from Polyneikes in order to persuade her husband, Amphiaraos, to go to war against Thebes. Behind him is his son Alkmaeon, who will avenge his father's death, ten years later, in the expedition of the Epigonoi against Thebes. To the right, the seer foretells the outcome of the expedition. |
